Finding a dream getaway In snoqualmie, Wa.
Not every buyer is looking for more square footage. Mine were looking for less of everything: less noise, less connectivity, less neighborhood. They wanted a true cabin, the kind you have to snowshoe into come winter, and that's exactly what we found above Keechelus Lake.
The setting is what hooked them first. The cabin overlooks the lake near Snoqualmie Pass, with skiing, hiking, and fishing essentially out the front door, yet it's only about an hour from Seattle. Close enough for a Friday afternoon escape, far enough that the phone stops mattering.
What they appreciated once we got inside was that rustic doesn't have to mean rough. The bathroom was upgraded, the upstairs bedroom is genuinely inviting, and a tankless water heater means a hot shower after a day on the mountain. Off-grid, but comfortable: spring-fed water and generator power were already dialed in, so nothing needed figuring out. In winter, access is by snowshoe beyond the seasonal gate, which most buyers would call a drawback. Mine called it the best feature.
The part where they leaned on me was the transaction itself, because this cabin sits on Forest Service leased land under a 20-year renewable permit. That's a different kind of purchase than a normal home sale, with its own questions about the permit, the terms, and what ownership actually looks like. Walking buyers through unusual rural transactions is my favorite part of this work, and by closing, they understood exactly what they were getting: privacy, natural beauty, and a true cabin experience.
Now their winters include a snowshoe commute to their own front door. Some dreams are specific like that.
